2024-25 FAFSA Delays

Changes were made to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application in the 2024-2025 aid year.

The FAFSA Simplification Act, enacted by Congress in 2020, is causing a significant overhaul of federal student aid as we know it. This transformation includes changes to the FAFSA application itself, how the students eligibility for federal and state aid is calculated, as well as changes to its terminology.

The 2024-25 FAFSA Application is now available. Due to the delay of the release of the application, financial aid award letters from NC public institutions are likely not going to be available until late Spring, possibly April.  You will receive an email to your student email when its available.

In the meantime, we encourage you to apply early using your 2022 tax information. Once students receive communication that their FAFSA Submission Summary is available, they can log onto their studentaid.gov account to check if they have errors or were flagged for verification and take necessary steps.
