Food Pantry

No one can study and do well in class if they are hungry. Life happens and sometimes we all need a little help. The Spartan's Table is a food pantry that has designated food distributions for those students in need.

What is The Spartan’s Table?

James Sprunt Single Stop partnered with Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries in the fall of 2016 to bring a food and nutrition program to James Sprunt Community College. This partnership has given the Spartan’s Table access to food donated from Food Lion twice a month as well as monthly shopping trips to The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. This food is then distributed to the students, faculty and staff at JSCC twice a month in afternoon and evening distributions.

Why a campus food and nutrition program?

A significant number of Duplin County area residents experience food insecurity. This means a portion of the JSCC student body (and their families) don’t know where they will get their next meal. It’s difficult to concentrate on classwork when you lack basic nutritional needs. We are here to help!

How can I receive help?

  • Twice a month food distributions in the Strickland Building Commons Area. Dates and times for distributions are sent in student and staff emails as well as posted on the monitors around campus.
  • Once a month a student may request a “Crisis Box” when an unforeseen circumstance has resulted in a lack of food in the home.

How can you help?

  • You can volunteer in a variety of ways. Volunteering can enhance your college experience and looks great on resumes and college applications. Please contact Amber Ferrell at 910-275-6368 or Karla Blanton at 910-275-6367 for more information.
