Scholarly Men of Success

One of the most important things that we can do is to be a mentor to someone else. The Scholarly Men of Success is a mentoring organization dedicated to the fostering of leadership skills for our male students.

Who Are the Scholarly Men of Success?

This organization provides awareness of health issues that are important to this population during the funding period, a weekly seminar to be taught by JSCC faculty, staff, and outside facilitators which will include the following topics: learning styles, goal setting, time management, career planning, diversity, budgeting, note and test taking, reading for understanding and study skills, career and educational mentoring through opportunities to shadow successful minority male college students, specialized supportive counseling and activities that increase their chances for completing higher education and obtaining a degree, financial aid, grant, and scholarship information.

Program Objectives

  • For the young men of James Sprunt Community College, there are a number of significant benefits to being part of this organization.
  • Provides a weekly seminar to be taught by JSCC faculty, staff and outside facilitators which will include the following topics: learning styles, goal  setting, time management, career planning, diversity, budgeting, note and test taking, reading for understanding and study skills.
  • Provides career and educational mentoring through opportunities to shadow successful minority male college students
  • Provides specialized supportive counseling and activities that increase their chances for completing higher education and obtaining a degree.
  • Provides financial aid, grant, and scholarship information.
  • Given the opportunity to attend college tours and other leadership events.
