NINE GRADUATES RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR COMMITMENT, DISCIPLINE AND DEDICATION TO SERVING THEIR COMMUNITIES
James Sprunt Community College recently celebrated its third annual Fire Academy graduation, recognizing nine cadets who successfully completed the rigorous training in preparation for continued service in their communities.
Fire Academy 3 has been an exceptional group of dedicated individuals,” said Cody Herring, JSCC Medical Emergency Services Clinical/Fire Coordinator. “Each of these cadets has selflessly served their local communities as volunteer firefighters while pursuing their training and professional development.”
Cadets in the cohort completed 248 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on training. Due to a seasonal drought, the live-burn portion of their training was postponed until June, requiring the cadets to complete the physically demanding training in extreme summer heat.
The Fire Academy 3 graduates were:
- Robert Ashton
- Braxton Barbour
- Nicholas Bryant
- Jeffrey Escobar-Barralaga
- Devin Hurt
- Jesse Lee
- Bailey Pifer
- David Sanchez
- Fredrick Taylor
Under the direction of instructors Cody Boone, Matthew Casey, Dale Combs, Gerren Lanier, Brandon Ricard, Whitley Ricard and Rebecca Russ, the cadets received the training necessary to meet the demands of the fire service.
Two graduates also received special recognition:
- Leadership Award: Jesse Lee
- Spirit of the Fire Service Award: David Sanchez
It has been a true honor for me and the entire instructional staff to be a part of their growth,” Herring said. “Watching these cadets achieve their goals and take the next step toward successful careers in the fire service is incredibly rewarding. We are proud of each of them and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the communities they serve.”
