Barbering

The program will prepare the students for the North Carolina Board Exam which will result in an apprentice license. The successful student will be qualified to work in an entry-level position in a barbershop or related business. After at least one year of on-the-job training, the option to receive a registered license by a practical examination will be available which will allow many options to the participant.

WEEKEND PROGRAM

Saturday & Sunday
9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m

• Student Permit: $25 (prerequisite to entering). Payable with credit/debit
  card to NC Board of Barber Examiners
• Tuition: $207 per course (due at registration).
• Insurance: $17 (due at registration.)
• Barber Student Kit: Approximately $850. This kit contains equipment
  that you will carry with you to your first job.
• Books: $281.41 (must be purchased on the first day of class).

JSCC adheres to a dress code for all students. Daily attire for male students is a button-down collared shirt, wool blend, poly blend, or silk blend pants, and a necktie. Daily attire for female students is wool blend, poly blend or silk blend dress, skirt, or pants, and a professional blouse/ top. Proper footwear for all students can be all black or brown dress shoes. Males: Shirts must be tucked in and neckties are worn neatly, no earrings or headgear permitted. Females: Skirts should be long enough to meet the knee when sitting. No strapless tops, halter tops, or spaghetti strap tops allowed. No sandals, flip-flops, open-toe shoes, or crocs. Pants must be properly secured on your waist. Jeans are prohibited for any student.

Female earrings should not be larger than a quarter size, for safety reasons no other body piercings should be visible male or female.

Long necklaces should be secured inside your shirt, two rings, one bracelet, and one watch are permitted. The school is not responsible lost or damaged jewelry.

Students must practice good hygiene, be neat in appearance and dress, hair and beards must be neatly trimmed, no strong perfumes or fragrances should be worn that could become disruptive.

Ladies smocks should fit comfortably over the hips; while men and women smocks should not be extremely tight. Barber jackets must be clean and worn as a top garment and zipped while receiving time. All JSCC students wear barber strong smocks (vest or jacket)
