This course provides an orientation to the skills necessary to become a professional Barber-Stylist, for individuals without prior experience in the barber industry. The Barber Styling Program prepares an individual for the North Carolina Board Exam, resulting in a North Carolina State Registered Barber License. Subjects include but are not limited to haircutting, shaving, trimming the beard, coloring the hair, applying hair tonics, permanent waving, marcelling the hair, facial and scalp massages, treatments with oils, creams, lotions or other preparations either by hand or mechanical appliances.
Training leading to certification –
- Learn the art of barbering and prepare for the North Carolina Board of Barber Examiners certification exam and apprentice license.
- Day, evening and weekend classes are offered (1,680 hours).
- Classes are held at James Sprunt Community College, Herring Building Room 106.
- After a minimum of one year of on-the-job training, the student is eligible to take the Registered Barber License examination with the State of NC.
