KENANSVILLE, NC – January 16, 2026 – James Sprunt Community College is proud to announce that Dr. Shannon Hair has been officially approved today by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges as the James Sprunt Community College’s seventh President. Dr. Hair will assume his new role in early February.
Dr. Hair brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, workforce development, and economic growth, including:
- Serving as Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Development at Danville Community College (DCC) in Danville, Virginia
- Providing strategic leadership in college advancement, fundraising, community engagement, and workforce partnerships
- Holding progressive leadership roles at DCC since 2010, including Director of Development and Executive Director of the Danville Community College Educational Foundation
- Spending more than a decade in economic development with Dewberry, Inc., leading regional workforce initiatives, and supporting localities across Virginia and North Carolina in securing state and federal funding for major economic and workforce development projects
Dr. Hair holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from National University, a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Nebraska, a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University, as well as an Associate of Applied Science in General Engineering and a Diploma in Drafting and Design from Danville Community College.
With extensive experience across academic programs, workforce development, and operational leadership, Dr. Hair has worked closely with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to support innovative programming, improve access to education, and align training with workforce needs.
The Board of Trustees and James Sprunt Community College look forward to welcoming Dr. Shannon Hair to campus and beginning this next chapter of leadership.
