North Carolina is known as a “Cooperative State.” NC has very specific real estate licensing requirements, and those requirements change from time to time. The NC Real Estate Commission’s website has the most current official prelicensing requirements. NC offers partial reciprocity with other states. A limited real estate license can be obtained from the Commission, so long as the out-of-state licensee is affiliated with a NC licensee and its license is in good standing. The license is issued for a limited time and only applies to real estate transactions. A reciprocal license is only available if you take courses in person in NC after you apply for provisional recipricol license. Reciprocity to work in NC as a real estate agent means you must pass the State portion of the NC Real Estate Exam.
