WAYNE BROOKS TEACHES GUNSMITHING WITH PASSION AND DRIVE

James Sprunt Community College is known for providing a variety of Continuing Education courses to the public. Some, like personal enrichment courses, are fun and enlightening. Some, like Workforce Development, build skills to create better employees for the workplace. JSCC’s Gunsmithing class can serve as both and can provide students with a skill that can be used in various settings.

Taught in the state-of-the-art machining lab of JSCC’s WestPark campus, the Gunsmithing course is a comprehensive program that covers all aspects of gunsmithing. It is taught by a veteran gunsmith, Wayne Brooks. Though he is too humble to call himself an expert, he does have forty years of experience in the science of gunsmithing.

“I have been doing this for forty years and acquired my FFL to sell guns, ammo, and accessories. Shortly afterward, I was taking in firearms for cleaning and then narrowing my focus to gunsmithing only.”

Brooks explains that as he progressed in art, he continued his education by taking short courses on different aspects of gunsmithing. Now, he is competent in rebluing, barreling, chambering, drilling, taping, recrowning, and more!

Brooks began his journey at JSCC, as most do, upon the high recommendation of praise by others. “I am passionate about teaching this to others who have the same passion I have. The things I have learned over the years I feel could help others in their goals towards success.”
