James Sprunt Community College Welcomes Senator Brent Jackson for Presidential Introduction, Program Showcase, and Workforce Development Building Tour

February 23, 2026

James Sprunt Community College welcomed Senator Brent Jackson, NC Senate District 9, to campus on Monday at 12:00 p.m. for a visit centered around meeting Dr. Shannon Hair, the College’s new president, and discussing the institution’s vision for workforce development and student success.

While on campus, Senator Jackson had the opportunity to tour the College’s new Workforce Development Building, currently under construction and projected for completion in May 2026. This 27,320 total square ft. facility represents a significant investment in workforce training in Duplin County and will house programs in HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing. The College extends its sincere thanks to Senator Jackson and Representative Jimmy Dixon, NC House District 4, for their advocacy that helped fund this project.

As part of the visit, Senator Jackson also met with Electrical Instructor Philip Anderson and students enrolled in the electrical program to learn more about hands-on training and career pathways in the skilled trades. The group participated in a walkthrough of the Workforce Development Building to review construction progress and discuss the project’s long-term impact.

Dr. Hair shared the following remarks during the visit:

“Although I have only served as president of James Sprunt Community College for a few weeks now, I have seen firsthand the meaningful impact our state elected officials have on our campus and throughout Duplin County. Their advocacy and support are essential, and without it, projects like this Workforce Development Building on our college campus would not be possible.”
