GUARANTEED ADMISSION TO ECU’S INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
James Sprunt Community College has partnered with East Carolina University to create a seamless pathway for students pursuing a four-year degree. Graduates who earn an Associate in Applied Science in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology, Electrical Systems Technology, and Information Systems or Network Management are now guaranteed admission to ECU’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology program.
Students who maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA will qualify for this opportunity and transfer 54 credit hours toward their bachelor’s degree, ensuring a smooth transition from JSCC to ECU.
For students committed to working in any of these fields, this partnership offers an excellent opportunity to save both money and time. As trades become increasingly popular, maintaining a competitive edge is essential. Earning a bachelor’s degree in a trade provides graduates with a powerful advantage as they enter the workforce.
Dr. Dustin Walston, Vice President of Curriculum, said,
“ECU places a high value on our Associate in Applied Science degrees. Enrollment in our business and industry programs at JSCC continues to increase, and these agreements will allow our graduates to jump-start a bachelor’s degree program at ECU. We appreciate the partnership with ECU and their support in helping us expand opportunities for our students.”
The Bilateral Agreement Signing took place in the Science and Technology Building at ECU on Monday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. Representatives from both JSCC and ECU gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Dr. Shannon Hair, JSCC’s President, said,
“Today marked another milestone with our continued partnership between James Sprunt Community College (JSCC) and East Carolina University (ECU) as our students enrolled in four of our Associate in Applied Science degrees—Diesel and Heavy Equipment, Electrical Systems, Information Systems, and Network Management Technology programs—will now have a seamless pathway, a guaranteed admission to ECU’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology program. For our first-generation college students who are enrolled at JSCC, many believe they deserve no better. With this bilateral agreement between JSCC and ECU, this opportunity to further their education (in-person or online) can forever change that mindset—thank you, ECU!”
This partnership reinforces JSCC’s commitment to student success and upward mobility. By expanding opportunities for technical education graduates, JSCC and ECU are working together to ensure students have clear, affordable, and achievable paths to advanced degrees and fulfilling careers.
