JSCC’S 62ND ANNUAL COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES CELEBRATE THE LARGEST GROUP OF GRADUATES TO DATE
KENANSVILLE, NC, May 16th: On Thursday, May 9th, at 6:00 p.m., James Sprunt Community College hosted its largest Commencement Ceremony to date. With 398 graduates for curriculum programs, 597 Workforce Development/Continuing Education graduates, and 25 nursing students pinned, JSCC has a lot to be proud of!
The community, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate the achievements of a diverse group of adult learners. From the youngest graduate at 16 to the oldest at 81, the room was filled with a sense of joy and accomplishment.
Guest speaker Cecilia Holden, President/ Chief Executive Officer of MyFutureNC, delivered a powerful address to the graduates. Her speech, which underscored the power of personal narratives, was particularly moving as she shared the stories of two graduates who had overcome significant challenges on their path to success.
JSCC President Dr. Jay Carraway conferred students’ degrees in 19 categories, diplomas in 12 categories, and certificates in 30 categories. Twenty-five different Workforce Development/ Continuing Education programs were represented.
The stats of JSCC’s Career and College Promise Program (CCP) may be most impressive. CCP Liaison Morgan Smith states, “I could not be prouder of these graduates! They had the privilege to walk at the graduation before they ever walked the stage at their high school graduation. What an accomplishment!” The high school participants received acknowledgment in the following areas:

- 25 Associate in Arts
- 4 Associate in Science
- 17 Business Admin Certificates
- 1 Criminal Justice Certificate
- 5 School Age Education Certificates
- 3 Early Childhood Certificates
- 10 Electrical Certificates
- 4 Electrical Diplomas
- 1 Industrial Systems Certificate
- 16 Welding Certificates
JSCC is incredibly proud of the achievements of all its students and celebrates the vibrant impact the college has on the residents of Duplin County. By offering affordable and accessible education to all students, JSCC strives to maintain a presence of hope in the community.
