OFFICERS FROM FOUR DIFFERENT COUNTIES PASSED THE MANDATORY DETENTION OFFICER CERTIFICATION COURSE
KENANSVILLE, NC, Wednesday, July 17th, 2024: James Sprunt Community College (JSCC) recently experienced a 100% pass rate for its Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC). The Summer DOCC consists of 4 ½ weeks or 185 hours of training and a final exam.
This mandatory training is required of anyone currently employed at a local Sheriff’s Office assisted in a position involving the care, custody, transportation, or control of an inmate. The next DOCC training is scheduled to begin on August 5th. Students can register on the JSCC website under short-term courses or contact instructor Eric Southerland for more information.
“We are always so thankful to provide this training to our local Sheriff’s Offices. The class averaged around 43 hours a week of classroom instruction. In addition, several students had over an hour of commute one way each day. It made for 4 ½ long weeks, and despite those difficulties, all the students completed their final state exam.”
Students from four Sheriff’s Offices in Eastern North Carolina attended:
Duplin County:
Kanesha Hall
Sampson County:
Lt. Heather Williams
Shannon Dempsey
Onslow County:
Chandler Simpson
Jack Owens
John Jasinski
Savannah Golden
Pamlico County:
