BETA EPSILON CHI RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING GROWTH, LEADERSHIP, AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) is a nonprofit organization that recognizes and promotes student academic achievement. PTK provides students with opportunities for their future while offering a supportive network of peers and advisors to guide them on the path to success.
JSCC President, Dr. Shannon Hair, is a strong advocate for initiatives that enhance the student experience and support student growth. He said,
“PTK plays an important role in supporting our students and strengthening our campus community. I’m excited to see the program continue to grow, and I am fully committed to providing the support and resources needed to expand its impact. I also want to thank the PTK staff, faculty, and our student officers whose dedication and hard work have helped bring this program back to life.”
Recently, James Sprunt Community College’s chapter, Beta Epsilon Chi, received two prestigious awards at the PTK Carolinas Region Convention. These awards included “Carolinas Region Most Improved Chapter Award” and “Carolinas Region Distinguished College Project.” The honors were awarded to the JSCC chapter for achieving top scores in the College Project Hallmark, a paper written by the leadership team about the college project, Spartan Shares. PTK members and advisors from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Bermuda gathered to celebrate these accomplishments and many others.
Taylor Kennedy is the PTK Beta Epsilon Chi Contact Advisor. As an employee of JSCC, she is passionate about seeing students benefit from the many opportunities PTK provides. She said,
“I was never given the opportunity to be involved in PTK as a student, and I know it would have made a meaningful difference in my journey. Now that JSCC students have that opportunity, I’m passionate about giving them the support and experiences I never had. It’s an incredibly valuable program for our students, and I’m grateful to be part of helping it grow.”
In addition to these college-level awards, Social Media Manager Alicia “AJ” Rowe won the Carolinas Region Hall of Honor for her work as an officer in the fall of 2025. Several JSCC students also received certificates for completing PTK Edge modules. Phi Theta Kappa Beta Epsilon Chi Advisor Taylor Kennedy also received a certificate for completing the Advisor Edge program. Overall, JSCC was deeply honored to be part of this event.
AJ Rowe shared,
“I love PTK because of the community and the impact I can have on those around me. I came to my first meeting and was instantly hooked. Mrs. Kennedy, Dr. Brown, and Ms. Pysell made me feel welcome and excited to give back to my community! They have helped shape my leadership skills, and I would not have been able to do the things I do now without them. PTK is just a fantastic environment, and I always feel loved, welcomed, and valued every time I walk into the room, and they have helped grow my leadership skills in ways I never knew it would!”
James Sprunt Community College remains committed to fostering student success through programs like Phi Theta Kappa. As the Beta Epsilon Chi chapter continues to grow and thrive, it stands as a testament to the dedication of its students, advisors, and college leadership, creating meaningful opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.
The college also recognizes the leadership and contributions of PTK officers President Azunay Lawson and Vice President Sahil Sapru for their commitment to the continued success of the Beta Epsilon Chi chapter!
