Meet Shereka Ray, the newest member of the JSCC Student Government Association (SGA)! Ray will serve as SGA Secretary for the 2024-2025 school year. In her role, she’ll record meeting minutes and collaborate with SGA President Vanessa Watkins to share resources and events with the student body.
As a fifth-semester ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) student, Ray is passionate about encouraging others. She says:
"I want to inspire students to stay on their path, no matter the challenges. Where you start isn’t where you stay—keep striving for higher."
Ray’s dream is to become a Cardiac or Neuro nurse, driven by a commitment to patient healing. She credits the supportive faculty and staff at JSCC, particularly Mrs. Rosetta Jessup, Ms. Victoria Paul, Mrs. Marry Mical, and Dr. Phadra Murray, for helping her overcome challenges and believe in her abilities.
She adds:
"JSCC has truly been a blessing in my life. The faculty and staff ensure your success, even during tough times, and the financial support I’ve received has made a world of difference."
We are excited to see Shereka Ray lead and inspire through her role as SGA Secretary. Best of luck this year, Shereka! 💛

Katlyn Foy (JSCC Smart Farm Manager) and Erin Martin (UMO Instructor) came together to assist Mr. Garrick Purdie at Duplin Early College in assembling their very own hydroponics tower garden. This tower garden was made possible by the Tri-County Bright Ideas Grant. Mr. Purdie's Science Club will also be coming out to the JSCC hydroponic farm to learn all about hydroponic farming and what they need to do to be successful.
Katlyn had a little help getting set up from JSCC Maintenance, who just happens to be her dad. When we say Join Our Family, we mean it 💙
