JSCC COUNSELOR RECOGNIZED FOR HER COMMITMENT TO STUDENT SUCCESS, LEADERSHIP, AND INNOVATIVE ADVISING PRACTICES

James Sprunt Community College proudly recognizes Jena Gutierrez, Student Services Counselor and Disability Services Coordinator, for successfully completing the North Carolina Community College Advising Leadership Academy.

This prestigious year-long professional development program included four intensive training sessions, a comprehensive Moodle-based curriculum, and the completion of a student success project designed to strengthen advising practices across the community college system.

Known throughout JSCC for her compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to students, Gutierrez consistently goes above and beyond to support student achievement. Her passion for helping students identify their goals and navigate the path toward success has made a lasting impact on the JSCC family.

Dr. Jennifer McLean, State Director of Advising and Coaching for the North Carolina Community College System Office, praised Gutierrez’s leadership and dedication, stating, “I look forward to seeing Jena continue to lead and innovate in the advising space.”

Dr. Shakeena White, Vice President of Student Services at JSCC, commended Gutierrez for balancing the rigorous demands of the academy alongside her daily responsibilities while continuing to serve students with excellence. White stated, “Jena Gutierrez’s completion of the Advising Leadership Academy is a significant professional achievement that reflects both her dedication to student success and her commitment to continuous growth. Her work exemplifies leadership, initiative, and a passion for helping students overcome barriers and reach their goals.”

JSCC President Dr. Shannon Hair also recognized the significance of the accomplishment, saying, “This 12-month professional development program concentrates on best practices related to student advising. I am thrilled to see Ms. Gutierrez’s commitment to this program over the last year. Her recent completion is a testament to her dedication to removing student barriers to advising. James Sprunt Community College is a better college today because of Jena and her successful training.”
