EVENT HIGHLIGHTS WORKFORCE TRAINING AND STUDENT SUCCESS ACROSS NORTH CAROLINA
James Sprunt Community College recently joined community colleges from across the state for Community College Day, held at Halifax Mall in Raleigh, North Carolina, and hosted by the North Carolina Community College System.
This annual event brings together legislators, students, faculty, and community leaders to showcase the powerful impact community colleges have on workforce development, student success, and North Carolina’s growing economy. The event also provides valuable opportunities for colleges to network, exchange ideas, and collaborate on ways to strengthen educational and workforce initiatives statewide.
This year, JSCC proudly highlighted its Electrical Systems Technology program, one of the College’s fastest-growing areas of study. The showcase also provided an opportunity to spotlight the program’s anticipated move into the College’s new Workforce Development Building, further expanding hands-on training opportunities for students and industry partners.
JSCC President Dr. Shannon Hair reflected on the experience, saying:
“This was my first interaction with Community College Day, and it certainly did not disappoint. Congratulations to the Great 58 and all the programs showcased by our individual colleges. Collectively, we are making a real difference across North Carolina through our response to business and industry needs. It truly starts at the community college level, sharing our stories, working in tandem with our elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels, and listening to our business and industry partners. Thank you to the Electrical Systems faculty and JSCC administration for making this event so special.”
During the event, representatives from JSCC met with Representative Jimmy Dixon and Senator Brent Jackson to discuss the important role community colleges play in preparing a skilled workforce and creating opportunities for students across the region.
Philip Anderson, Electrical Instructor at JSCC, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the event.
“We are very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this year’s Community College Day event. It enabled us to showcase and demonstrate the value of workforce training in Duplin County and across North Carolina. Special thanks to Senator Jackson and Representative Dixon for their continued support and commitment to JSCC. It is through these strong partnerships that we can provide the best possible learning experiences for our students.”
Vice President of Curriculum Services Dr. Crystal White also emphasized the significance of the event.
“Community College Day in Raleigh was an excellent opportunity for our James Sprunt team to highlight the life-changing impact of community college education and workforce training. We appreciated the opportunity to speak with Representative Jimmy Dixon and Senator Brent Jackson about the important role community colleges play in strengthening Duplin County’s skilled workforce and creating opportunities for our students.”
JSCC was honored to participate in this year’s Community College Day and looks forward to continuing to build strong partnerships, share innovative ideas, and showcase the transformative impact of community colleges across North Carolina.
